Fiber and Yarn Stash has Reached Critical Mass

Nov 2nd.  I’ve sent out all the yarn/fiber from this de-stash, and judging from emails, most have been received.  If by chance you did not get your package, please send me an email or comment here, otherwise I’ll consider this a completed project.

Thank you all for helping me de-stash my yarn and fiber in a way that also alleviated the guilt by knowing it would be put to good use.  It was hard to have so much stuff I knew I couldn’t use and harder still to find people who knew how to use it. :)   So thank you all!  As I continue to clean house and go through things, I may come accross another stash, and if I do, I’ll post here on my blog, in twitter, and on Ravelry.  Thank you all again and I wish you well in your creations!

Oct 23rd: Wave 3 shipped out today, only a couple people still haven’t responded so those will wait til after Halloween.  Thank you to everyone who has been so patient and awesome.  I think the spinners made off with some good bargains, even after shipping and box costs.  Speaking of which, that was a detail I hadn’t anticipated at the start of this, but I simply did not have enough boxes to ship out over 30 packages so I bought them.  Most people seem to understand, and I thank you.  Some of you paid a little extra for time and gas, and I thank you.  I also want to thank everyone who has helped reduce my stash and my guilt at not being able to use it all.  It feels much better to think it is going to people who will use it.   Thank you, and I wish you all the best!

Oct 22nd: Wave 2 of shipping sent out, everyone should have been emailed pics by now, and I am just waiting on replies with the OK, addresses, and shipping payments.  Again, whatever is not completed by the end of Friday the 23rd will wait until after Halloween, but I would love to wrap this up and be done. :)

EDIT PLEASE NOTE: Oct 21st  Still working on wave 2 of shipping estimates, and waiting for wave 3 to reply with ZIP codes before I can proceed for them.

Whatever isn’t taken care of by Friday will be pushed until after Halloween.  Sorry, but I am a mom/wife and daughter/sister first, and this project has to come after I take care of everything for family and home.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.

:

Oct 20th 7:30pm my time, I sent out the first wave of packages today and if I haven’t sent you an email with a pic yet, you should get yours tomorrow (since some people have passed, it kinda changes things a little down the line).  If you have not yet replied to my email asking for an address or at least a Zip for shipping estimates, please do.  I’d like to have everything shipped and done by Friday if we can.  Thanks for your patience. :)

Oct 18th 1:30pm my time, If you have not yet received an email from me please leave a new comment. I just want to be sure I haven’t missed anyone. :)   Also, we have things sorted and I will take them to the post office tomorrow morning to get packaging and weigh them and get prices for shipping.  I will then come home and email pics to you of what I plan to send plus your shipping estimate.  You can then email me back if you want me to remove something and thus reduce shipping or save you from getting something you don’t want.

In the email I will also include my paypal info and my ebay name which you can check to see that I have 100% positive feedback in case you have concerns over the arrangements.  Like ebay, I will ship the items out as I receive payment or as we make arrangement otherwise in private email.  If I were to ship it all and wait for payment, it would cost me over $250 and I can’t afford that right now, sorry. :)

Does this sound ok to everyone?  I’m trying to keep it as simple and fair as I can manage. :)   Feel free to comment or email if you have questions or concerns.

Oct 17th 6pm my time, This project is Huge! lol Sorting and taking pictures, emails will be coming, taking longer than I thought. My apologies. :) I’m working on it.

Oct 16th. I’ll be sorting and taking pics to email to people for their approval today and tomorrow.  Expect emails by Sat evening.   Thank you for your patience since my first job is to be mom and wife, but I do plan to get everything mailed next early next week.

EDIT OCT 14 @7:00pm Mountain Time: Please consider this offer closed to those who have already commented and DM’d me on Twitter.  I’m afraid the person who posted on Ravelry may have misrepresented what and how much I had to share, and it has now been more than spoken for.  I’ll be going through and pairing up who wants what and will be emailing pics for approval.  Thank you all for your interest and I am sorry I cannot give more. :)

EDIT Oct 14 @ 10:30 Mountain Time: Please consider all yarn spoken for at this point.  Please note if you need roving or can use dyed locks that you can card yourself (I just found 3 more boxes). :)

OK, here’s the deal.  I love fiber and roving and yarn.  I have accumulated too much to ever use in my lifetime.  Though to be fair, much of it was gifted to me or inherited from my dear grandmas who taught me to knit and crochet and sew.  Maybe I need to seek a 12-step program… nah, I’ll just share it with other people who love fiber, too! :)

So, as previously announced on twitter, I plan to go through it and give it away.  Here are my terms:

If you are going to use it or resell it, please pay shipping.

If you are going to use your talents to create something to give away to those in need or a charity (or if you’d like it for yourself and really can’t afford shipping), I’ll pay shipping.  EDIT: I’ll pay shipping within the US, talk to me about international and we’ll work something out. (End Edit)

Totally on the honor system here.

I have a smoke-free but cat friendly house, however I do all I can to keep cats away from my yarn and fiber stash, and much has been in storage for a while.

Drop me a DM on Twitter or comment here if you are interested and please give me an idea of your color and fiber choices such as acrylic, blends, wools, what-have-you.

I will try to get pictures up of what’s up for grabs in the next week, so please check back, but I wanted to give people a little more info than Twitter allows. :)   It’ll be first come, first served, and totally up to  my discretion to limit amounts if need be (first person to DM can’t have dibs on all of it kind of thing).  I don’t want to make this complicated, but I do want the intent to be honored. :)

EDIT: If you are able to donate to Spirit Jump through one of their paypal widgets for the Charity SmackDown that would be a very cool thank you. :)

EDIT ^2: You can email me @  pauserefresh@hotmail.com if needed, and as I get the stash pics up and sorted in the next couple days, we can use email for private info.

EDIT/MORE INFO: I have been getting some questions so I hope to clarify.  I am still pulling out boxes and sorting, and hope to have pics posted by Thursday.  What I thought I’d do is send emails with pics, (like choice A, B, or C based on stated preferences), and then if that person passes on one or two, those are up for the next person, if that makes sense.  As for shipping payments, I can only figure those after it’s decided who gets what and I can weigh it.  I hope you all understand. :)

Also of note is that I do have a lot more dyed locks, not yet carded, than I thought and some unwashed but skirted wool.  There is more wool or roving than yarn.  I do have some handspun yarn, too.  Some of the stash has lost the labels or I’ve forgotten which exact breed of sheep it was from, but I’ll do my best on descriptions, and if needed, I can do a burn test to narrow it down.  ( I think I know my fibers pretty well, though.)

So, I’m thinking I’ll post a few pics so you can all get a better idea of what I have, email out pictures of options for people who have spoken up for them, then proceed down the line, then post pics here of what is left, if any.  We’ll get it worked out.  But first, I need to get through all the stash and I have to play mom, too, so please be patient with me. :)

This has become huge fast and I admit I didn’t think of all the details when I started, so just be patient with me and we’ll sort it out.

i would love some fiber. colors dont really matter. but maybe not red. i would prefer wool and blends (but not acrylic). more than willing to pay shipping for whatever you are willing to send.

      • pauserefresh Says:

The yarn has all been spoken for at this point, but you didn’t say if you need roving or if you have carders and can use dyed locks. I’ll see what’s left, but we’re about done.

Blues and reds on the fiber

I’m caitlinchris on twitter and am now following you.

Hi! I am currently in the process of knitting 200 kids scarves for the local children’s shelter here in Atlanta and can use whatever you are willing to donate. As a two-time cancer survivor, I am very willing to knit some scarves for you to give to @spiritjump. (I am familiar with the organization, as I wrote up @Kat Rogers on Art from the heart recently:

I would love anything. I love natural fibers wool, llama, ect. I am alergic to Mohair. I love to knit spin ect. I do mostly give my things away and would love to pay shipping but right now (promise I wont sell it) I make spindles for sale. my hubby is laid up from his back and its looking like he wont return to work. I am unemployed also. Thank goodness for our church. So I promise it will be donated to chairty or given to children or grandchildren for gifts I make. God Bless you for all of this! Marion

  5. Angela Says:

I love greens and purples and anything silk. Huge Mmmalabrigo fan. Alpaca and mohair intolerant. I’m Rightsaidred on Ravelry.

  6. pauserefresh Says:

Wow, I’m impressed at the replies already. :) Foxygknits, do you have any restrictions for fiber since I know our local hospital doesn’t allow wool or alpaca or mohair, they want cotton or acrylic.
I’m currently going through my stash and hope to have pics, descriptions and more info up soon. :)

  7. Andrea in Argentina Says:

    Hi,
I would love to have at most 3 skeins of any yarn for my charity group (some info here-ravelry link: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/AndreaB/lubas-blanket-for-madres-en-accion ; I can send more info privately). I’m in Argentina and I’ll be happy to pay for shipping. I just want 3 skeins because with large amounts I run the risk of paying a lot for customs!
    Thanks for the great giveaway,
    Andrea

  8. Jennifer Says:

Hello. I saw that you were destashing on Ravelry (DisPrincessJen on there). I would love to help you clean out some of your stash! I would pay shipping since I am not sure what I would do with it yet. I love Cotton, but would take anything but wool since I am allergic to it. Let me know if you need to know anything else. Thanks and Good luck with everything! Jennifer

  9. pauserefresh Says:

Need to spend some family time and get munchkins to bed, but will be back later and hope to have pics and a good list of what all I have by Thursday, just FYI. :) Glad to see so many fiber people out there. :)

  10. Lynn Says:

What a generous offering. I have a prayer shawl group at my church. We are always looking for washable yarns. Prefer bulky or chunky weights, but we can double lighter weight yarns.

Thank you for your consideration. I will be happy to pay shipping.

    Lynn

  11. Mel Says:

Wow, good on you for sharing the fibre and yarn love! :)
I have just started learning to spin. I am really enjoying it and finding it very therapeutic.
I would love any natural fibre to feed my new spinning addiction. My favourite colours are purple, red, and blue. I love natural coloured wools too.
I am happy to pay shipping, as I am not sure what I would do with it yet – some would be gifts, but I would probably use some myself too.
    I’m Mocha on Ravelry. :)

  12. Vicki Says:

I think it is so wonderful that you share what you have with others. If you have any left, I’d love any cotton or acrylic yarn that you might send me. My daughters and I knit and crochet for our local crisis center and would put it to good use. We are morethanitseams on Ravelry which is how I found out about you! Thank you!

  13. Vicki Says:

Oh, my daughter just walked up and reminded me that you asked about colors. So, as for colors-anything babies and toddlers up to age 2 would wear. And she also reminded me that the biggest factor is washability, not fiber, so superwash wool is also fine.
    Thank you!

  14. Misty Says:

How generous to share! I would be very glad to pay shipping on any fiber you are willing part with.

I knit primarily for charity. I pick a new one each year. This year is my knits will be going to kids in Rwanda. Last year they went to orphans in Mongolia.

Wool would be the best for the kiddos and they like any color. Warm is the most important.

    Thank you so very much!
    Misty

  15. Sherri Says:

I’m a very new spinner, pretty new knitter. I’d cheerfully put to use any kind of spinning fiber and would be pleased with any natural fiber yarn– I will be giving some of the finished items away to my students who look cold, but I can pay shipping. Colors are not that important, I tend to like a bit of every color, although I do tend to buy mostly purples and blues.

    Thanks for the generous offer!

  16. Megan Says:

    Hi!

I would love any wool, alpaca, or mohair yarn. I would actually appreciate anything, as I’m on a budget. :) I like basically any color, but I really like light, neutral shades, and super blindingly bright ones! (total opposites!) :D My ravelry account is lethargiccrochet.

    Thanks so much! <3

  17. Tiffany Says:

Wow this is such a wonderful thing you are doing. I am a new dyer and looking for any kinds of wools to dye: white, natural, ecru, tan, beige, greys…any light colored wools of any weights than can be dyed would be awesome. I am also new to spining so fiber of any kind would be appreciated and natural, undyed would be even better! Those items would be for myself so I would be more than willing to pay shipping costs. Also if you have a skein or two of cotton or acrylic I make premie hats for charity and would also be more than willing to cover shipping costs for that :)

    • Tiffany Says:

Just wanted to say that I have some angora, but it is too hard for me to learn how to spin with, but I do have a pair of small hand carders so I was thinking I could blend it with the uncarded locks. If you have any left let me know. I think I only have like 5oz, if that, of angora so I wouln’t need a whole lot.

  18. deborah Says:

this is beautiful of you to do. thank you so much! if you have anything left at this point i would be so grateful to receive just about anything. i’m trying to knit gifts for family and friends this holiday season and some pretty things for my baby. one thing i really really want to try is knitting myself a lightweight top but it seems i will need 6 or 7 skeins to do so (i am tall & large) which i cannot afford to buy.

for fibers i can use wool, bamboo, cotton, nicer acrylic blends, anything relatively easy to knit up. superwash yarn is great. anything that will work for washcloths, dish cloths, coasters, scarves, hats, baby blankets or hats… i am trying to make it all! :-) not picky about colors but preferably not neon. would especially love some veggie yarn to knit up a vegan friend’s gift; she loves brights / rainbow.

  19. granjudy Says:

What a generous thing to do. Thank you! For myself, dk, fingering or laceweight. I like most colors, I have mostly neutrals, blue, green, raspberry pink/red. I’d like to introduce our library knitters to some great yarns if you have some fab stuff I could break into 5-6 sample sizes. Most of them are teens who just started knitting last fall, so worsted or chunky weights may be best for them.

  20. Noriko Says:

    Hi,

I can pay for shipping for personal use of the fiber. I don’t have any way of carding the fiber myself so roving or batts would be needed. Any type of material is fine. I like all sorts of colors, but gravitate towards pinks and greens. I thank you for your generous offer.

    -Noriko

  21. Kim Evans Says:

Hi! I would love any wool or natural fiber or blend. yarn or fiber. prepped or raw. i like blue, green, purple. but will take any colors! i do do charity knitting/crochet! i would be happy to pay for shipping. i am ksknitchic on ravelry. thanks so much! :)

  22. FalconDance Says:

    What a generous idea! Wow.

I knit and crochet for Warm Woolies, so wool (or other natural animal fiber) would be best even if I have to spin it myself, which is no big deal, especially now that winter has settled early. But I would certainly give any blend of fibers/yarn a good home and work into one of the many projects I have simmering (including teaching ‘domestic arts’ that will hopefully get fully underway at the start of the year).

  23. Angela Says:

Thank you for this generous offer! I’ll gladly pay the shipping. I’d be interested in any wool for dyeing. White and natural tones, yarn and roving both. Also, any pre-dyed wools, mohair, angora, alpaca you may have in warm colors: reds, oranges, light or dark pinks, yellows, and turquoise.

Just let me know what’s left. Thanks again!

  24. Laura Says:

I saw your message about destashing on Twitter, and I would love to help. :) I’m a spinner, and I’m not terribly picky about color. I prefer wools, mohair, alpaca, etc – I’m not a big cotton or rayon fan.

    YAY!

  25. Jessie Says:

I saw a post about your destash on Ravelry (I’m wickedsharp on there). This is a very generous and kind way to clear out your stash! I’m a knitter and relatively new spinner. I’m partial to blues, greys, black, red and light natural colors. I’d be happy with yarn, roving/top or fleece (I’ve already got pounds that need washing, so dirty would be fine too) :) I could pay shipping (probably up to about $10).

  26. Gina Says:

This is so awesome that you have a stash so big you are having to give it away to reduce it. (awesome for those recipients LOL) I have a wonderful pair of handcards and am borrowing a drum carder, so would be very interested in taking that uncarded dyed stuff off of your hands! LOL You mention an unwashed but skirted fleece, do you happen to recall what type of sheep became naked for that?
I also enjoy roving as I can just sit and spin and not have to worry about all the prep first. Email me and we can discuss it further! Thanks so much for your consideration!

    Gina

    • pauserefresh Says:

I have corrie, cormo, finn, corrie crosses, bfl and others. I’ll have to check on their condition. They have been stored so I’ll need to see how they fared. However, at this point, most everything has been spoken for. I’ll let you know if I have some for you though. :)

      • Gina Says:

haven’t received an email yet… ;-) Just leaving a note like you asked…

Hope you had a great weekend and are getting things sorted and clearing that bed so your accomodating child has some place to sleep! LOL

        Thanks!
        Gina

  27. Kaylan Says:

Hello! I also saw the post on Ravelry about your destashing.

I’m an avid spinner/demonstrator, and I’m always looking for fibers that I can take along to demos and let the public try. That and interesting/unusual fibers/colors/preparations that I can share for part of the learning!

I’m really not picky about colors, natural and dyed.. any fiber type is fine as well. I currently have a lot of Shetland, so I’d be happy to pass on that.

I’m more than happy to pay for whatever shipping and handling (I’m sure that you’re going to be running short on boxes/bags! So don’t hesitate to include that in shipping).

  28. C. Says:

Just a revision to the above:

I am more than willing to pay for shipping.

    I also would like roving.

  29. C. Shuy Says:

Thought you might like to know what has happened to at least a little bit of the fiber you de-stashed!
